When it comes to Internet Marketing (and any type of business really) there are three key perspectives that must come together to ensure success. Without any one, your efforts are unlikely to succeed. Trouble is, most of us don't know what the three roles are and pretty much everyone is likely to fall into one far more easily than the other two. So, what are the perspectives? They are the visionary, the organizer and the implementer. The visionary is the type of person who ... ... can see into the future, see the world he/she wants to create, the life he/she wants to live, the success he/she expects to have. Visionaries love to daydream and are at home in the chaos of creation. This role is the foundation of any successful Internet Marketing effort. Without a vision, you have no clear goal toward which to work. However there is a shadow side to the visionary. Most visionaries are so creative and full of new ideas that they have difficulty picking one vision, focusing and staying organized. Plus they quickly grow bored with the mundane task of doing the plodding, day-to-day tasks necessary to see their vision come into reality. Are you a visionary? The organizer is the type of person who likes to take the scattered mess left in the wake of a visionary, collect all of that information together, order it, prioritize it and build a plan to make it a reality. This type of person loves lists, loves plans and loves to delegate. Organizers like to see the big picture, like to know where they are going, like to find the road to the goal and like to tell others what to do to bring it all together and make it happen. On the shadow side, organizers can easily get overwhelmed and disoriented if they are presented with too much information from a visionary. And they don't want to get drawn too far down into the details of implementation for fear that they will lose track of where they are headed. Are you an organizer? The implementer loves to get things done. This type of person isn't overly concerned about the grand vision or the big-picture plan. This type wants to dive into the juicy details of a complex project and solve the problems necessary to make their part of the puzzle work. Implementers are hard workers. They are detail-oriented. They are skilled at what they do and they love to come up with ingenious solutions to the technical problems of implementing a plan. On the shadow side, implementers tend to hate interruptions and become frustrated with a change in vision or plan requires them to change their day-to-day work. They want completion, not the chaos of vision or the vagueness of organizing. Are you an implementer? The tricky part of working on any Internet Marketing business is that all three roles are necessary and interdependent. Without the visionary there is no stretching, no growth, no draw to a higher level of success. Without the organizer there is no grounding of the vision in a strategy and plan. Without the implementor, nothing actually gets done. We all tend toward one role or the other. By knowing which type you are, you can begin to see where you need to stretch yourself to fill the other necessary roles for success. And as your business grows, by knowing your strong role and your weaker roles, you'll have a solid knowledge of the skills you need to find in others to help balance you in your Internet Marketing efforts. Here's to your vision, your plan and your successful implementation! - Iggy, The Sexy Iguana |
